Paths to Swiss Citizenship

There are two main paths:

1. Ordinary Naturalization (ordentliche Einbürgerung): For anyone who has lived in Switzerland for at least 10 years (years between age 8-18 count double)

2. Simplified Naturalization (erleichterte Einbürgerung): For spouses of Swiss citizens (married 3+ years, lived in CH 5+ years) and children of Swiss parents born abroad

Requirements for Ordinary Naturalization

• C permit (settlement permit) • 10 years of residence in Switzerland (8-18 years count double) • 3 of the last 5 years in the same canton • German/French/Italian at B1 speaking, A2 writing • Integration: participation in economic and social life • Knowledge of Swiss customs, geography, political system • No threat to public safety • Financial independence (no social welfare in last 3 years)

The Process Step by Step
